Egg-Sucking Leech

Classic Frog

Hutch's Pennell

The egg-sucking leech is one of the most productive flies on many interior steelhead rivers.

Egg-Sucking Leech

Bass and other panfish eat everything that swims, crawls, slithers, and flounders on or in the water.

The frog has been used by bass fly fisher's for generations and with good reason.

Plop this down onto vegetation and 'swim' it into the open water, and like a good scout 'Be Prepared!'

A must when fly fishing for bass!!

Hutch's Pennell comes from the British island Orkney where an angler named Ian Hutcheon, who seems to be Pretty famous in those parts, has bettered the Black Pennell by adding a bit of sparkle and contrast to it in the form of a silver tag, a peacock herl body and a white hackle along with the black already found on the black version.
The fly immediately appealed to me, and the version tied by McPhail looked very good, and sparked the idea of tying a version.
